The Detail Designer I, Electrical will have a basic understanding of the engineering/production environment in design of electrical systems and electrical installation. The Detail Designer I, Electrical will be collaborating with the electrical design team to design in accordance with applicable codes and standards while meeting client/class requirements. This role is to support the electrical elements of the 3D modeling and producing complete Manufacturing Information (MI). The Detail Designer I, Electrical supports the generation of the Detail Design Production Drawings and making sure it is in accordance with the VSY Standards, Quality and VSY Engineering Processes. The successful candidate will work well with design staff, is capable with significant to moderate supervision to complete work and contribute to the development of the electrical design.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
Working closely with the Project Lead and the design team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Support the development of sustainable electrical designs. 3D modelling creation and modelling support/checking. 2D production drawing creation and drawing support/checking.
Understand single line diagrams and prepare designs, calculations, plans, specifications, contract documents.
Must have a basic understanding of all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, system descriptions and calculations.
Applies standard engineering tasks and exhibits a working knowledge of applicable codes.
Support the evaluating the selection and/or modification of standard techniques, procedures, criteria, and systems to efficiently meet project goals.
Participate in the Internal/external design meetings.
Quality control, through conducting checking of engineering deliverables and production drawings.
Supports the electrical aspects of projects by troubleshooting, diagnosing, and solving complex technical problems.
Other duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
Electrical Engineering Degree or Certified Electrical Technologist Diploma.
0-2 years' experience in Electrical Engineering environment
Basic knowledge and experience with CAD software. (CADMATIC preferably)
Excellent organizational, computer, and communication skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Registered or ability to become registered with ASTTBC or APEGA.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, management, and working parties.
Ability to travel as requested and be willing to work overtime.
Knowledge of Canadian Engineering standards and codes.
Basic knowledge of mechanical, HVAC and electrical systems, project implementation, and the electrical construction process. (preferred)
Knowledge of National Shipbuilding Strategy program is an asset.

The estimated salary for this position is $67,600-$81,100. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
