The Senior Manager, Quality Assurance is accountable for the design, development and effective implementation of an ISO certified quality management system for VSY Shipyards Division. This role ensures proper conformance of the system and for assessing the continued suitability of the system to comply with ISO 9001:2015 requirements. This role liaises closely with various teams within the Program Management Office, Engineering & Planning, Operations, Supply Chain and Finance.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver
What you'll do
Ensures the effective design, development, and implementation of ISO 9001:2015 core procedures at all three shipyards by communicating the requirements and procedures of the quality system, providing training, and directing audits as required.
Responsible for assisting in maintaining the integrity of the implemented quality systems and in the implementation of any new quality systems in VSY Shipyards Division. This would include integration with systems such as the ISO 18000 (Safety) and 14000 (Environment) standards.
Facilitates Shipyards Management Review reports, meetings, and action tracking.
Documents and reports overall suitability and performance of the quality system to senior management by preparing and providing reports, status updates, and information upon request.
Manages VSY NCR and CA processes to ensure quality standards are met and continuous improvements are identified.
Responsible for developing and execution of internal VSY audit plan and facilitating external quality audits.
Supports all VSY Functional groups in delivery of functional quality commitments.
Develops, maintains, and monitors Shipyards quality performance to the performance measurement baseline/business plan, reviews metrics and generates data analyses reports.
Manages VSY program Quality Assurance deliverables in accordance with contractual requirement.
Manages people and their performance, prioritizes tasks, creates development opportunities and adjusts staffing levels to correspond with work volume.
Mentors departmental staff and provides functional expertise and coaching to other departments in a multi-disciplinary, matrix organizational environment.
What you'll bring
Technical degree with some experience in the Marine industry.
Certification as Qualified Lead Auditor plus 5 years' experience leading a quality program in the manufacturing, heavy industry or ship building industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 10 years of experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a shipyard environment.
A high standard of business conduct and ethics; dealing with all situations and issues with integrity and honesty.
Excellent knowledge of the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 and applicable company policies and procedures
Ability to audit processes and procedures.
Familiarity with all shipyard trades.
Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language
Ability to work with and coordinate the activities of people over whom the incumbent may have no direct authority. Focused on bringing various priorities together to achieve set objectives. Strong influencing skills required.
Excellent analytical, presentation, organizational, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Needs to be able to operate as an effective Business Partner across the Shipyard Division.
Knowledge of lean principles and practices, knowledge and or certification in Six Sigma is beneficial.

The estimated salary for this position is $145,800-$175,000 . In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
