DarkVision, part of Koch Engineered Solutions, is looking for intermediate to senior level Web Developers to join our Research & Innovation team.

As DarkVision's imaging technology captures the largest ultrasound datasets in the world, your work will play a crucial role in transforming super high-fidelity industrial asset inspection data into actionable, interactive tools for clients.

As a Web Developer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining web-based reporting applications that allow customers to visualize, interact with, and generate reports from large-scale ultrasound inspection data for Oil & Gas pipelines and wells.

Depending on your skill set, you may focus more on frontend development (building interactive dashboards and UIs) or backend development (designing APIs and data services), but ideally, you are comfortable across the stack.

This is an on-site regular full-time position in our HQ in North Vancouver, BC, where employees enjoy full access to our facility amenities including a well-equipped on-site gym, squash court, climbing wall, steam room, and more!

What You Will Do

Frontend Development:

• Build responsive, user-friendly web interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks like React or Vue.js.
• Develop interactive dashboards and data visualizations to display inspection summaries, metadata, and annotations.
• Optimize web performance and ensure cross-device compatibility.
• Work with designers to create accessible, functional, and visually appealing UI components.

Backend Development:

• Develop and maintain scalable APIs using FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
• Integrate APIs with databases and data pipelines, ensuring efficient data retrieval and report generation.
• Implement secure authentication and role-based access control (OAuth, JWT).
• Optimize database queries and back-end performance for real-time data interaction.

Collaboration & Deployment:

• Work closely with data engineers, designers, and stakeholders to refine features.
• Write unit tests, perform debugging, and maintain high code quality.
• Deploy applications to AWS (Lambda, ECS, S3, API Gateway, RDS, CloudWatch, etc.).

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

We are looking for skilled web developers with expertise in either frontend, backend, or full-stack development. At a minimum, you should have:

• 3 or more years of experience as a Web Developer (Frontend, Backend, or Full Stack).
• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript (for frontend) or Python (for backend).
• Experience with modern web frameworks (e.g. React, Vue.js, Django, FastAPI, Flask).
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs and how to integrate them with databases.
• Understanding of SQL databases (PostgreSQL, RDS) and best practices for queries and schema design.
• Experience working with cloud platforms (especially AWS) for hosting and deployment.
• Familiarity with secure coding practices, authentication mechanisms (OAuth, JWT), and performance optimization.

What Will Put You Ahead

While not required, experience in any of the following will make you stand out:

• Data Visualization - Experience with D3.js, Chart.js, Plotly, or Streamlit.
• Report Generation - Working with tools like Jinja2, WeasyPrint, Pandoc, or ReportLab
• Real-time Web Technologies - WebSockets, Server-Sent Events.
• Testing & Automation - Cypress, Playwright, Jest for frontend; PyTest for backend.
• DevOps & Deployment - Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines.
• Observability - Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, AWS CloudWatch.

General Salary Range

For this role, we anticipate paying $80,000 to $120,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
