Managing Consultant, Environmental Scientist/Ecotoxicologist (Senior Level) (Project Management)
ERM is seeking an experienced and motivated Managing Consultant, Environmental Scientist/Ecotoxicologist to be based in Whitehorse, YT or one of our other Canadian offices. The successful applicant will be responsible for designing, overseeing, and implementing large-scale, multi-year environmental monitoring programs for mining sites across Canada's North. This is a cross-disciplinary role. The candidate will bring their expertise to a wide variety of projects across our Mine Closure, Capital Project Delivery and Liability & Portfolio Management Remediation business lines and will work closely with a diverse group of technical disciplines (including aquatics, fisheries, wildlife, geochemistry and contaminated sites management) to deliver complicated field programs in remote locations. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the design of complex environmental monitoring programs for mine sites throughout Canada in collaboration with subject matter experts.
Build strong relationships with local client representatives and oversee the implementation of the program with careful attention to budgets and scopes.
Provide mentoring and guidance to a team of enthusiastic junior field colleagues to keep them safe and focused on efficient, high-quality execution.
Helping the project team connect reporting to the reality of the field programs by taking a leadership role on data analysis and reporting.
Contribute to proposal development, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates in accordance with ERM's policies and processes.
Actively contribute to one or more of ERM's technical communities and build strong connections across business units, especially with our Mountain & Pacific business unit who operates in Alaska and western US states where there is considerable overlap in the mining focus shared by Western Canada.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate degree in biology, aquatic sciences, geochemistry or related disciplines. A cross-discipline degree is highly valued.
Registered Professional Biologist (or equivalent), or a willingness to pursue an appropriate professional certification.
5+ years of direct environmental consulting experience as part of 10+ years of total experience (including graduate school and entry-level roles in industry)
Highly experienced in designing and overseeing field programs in remote locations (including Northern Canada), including managing complex logistics and multiple teams.
Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health & Safety procedures.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with the ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, work independently with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor junior staff.
Strong statistical skills using the open-source program R.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Field qualifications (e.g., Pleasure Craft Operators, CABIN certification, Electrofishing Crew Supervisor) is an asset.
