The Planner II supports the Ship Construction Production Support team in one or more specific areas of production planning. The Planner II, Deck Plate (Electrical) manages production sequence within their area and trade designation while monitoring construction schedule adherence and productivity. This role is responsible for monitoring ship readiness, releasing of production shop orders and tracking of physical and transactional production progress to enable smooth flow of production activities within their area of focus.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
Develop/Modify complete production work packages that include additional production information, material lists, and work instructions required for production execution.
Ensures that shop orders are completed in a timely manner and no outstanding transactions remain after completion of each work package.
Assists in scheduling production work packages within defined windows (milestone, key event and zone schedules). Ensures material planning, production and program deliverables are aligned.
Monitors Work in Progress and on time material availability to ensure they remain within the company limits.
Works with production and area management to sequence and prioritize manufacturing, assembly and installation activities. Coordinates trade input into work instructions and work packages to reflect preferred production methods and processes.
Tracks physical and transactional production progress.
Produces work queue reports and dispatch lists to warehousing and production work centres with expected start and finish dates for operations.
Investigates causes of issues and delays in production and expedites activities to eliminate them.
Investigate cross discipline predecessor scope to enable work center readiness.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
Diploma or Technical certification in Trades or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3-5 years of experience in planning, ship design, shipbuilding or related trade experience.
Understanding of shipbuilding operations and relationship between planning, procurement, design and production.
Ability to apply inventory and material management standard principles.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Knowledge of supply chain management principles including procurement, logistics and inventory management.
Knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, product structures and bills of material.
Knowledge of document control systems and databases.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and planning systems (Primavera and MS Project preferred).
Proficiency working with CAD/CAM software suite including Ship Constructor (preferred) and AutoCAD.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve.
Good judgment and reasoning skills.
Ability to work with limited direction and to function as a key team member.

The estimated salary for this position is $82,700 - 99,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
