The Electrical Detail Designer III will have a strong understanding of the engineering/production environment in design of electrical systems and electrical installation. The Electrical Detail Designer III will be collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to design in accordance with applicable codes and standards while meeting client/class requirements. This role is responsible for the electrical elements of the 3D modeling and producing complete Manufacturing Information (MI) within the prescribed plans, schedules, and budgets to support production. The Electrical Detail Designer III ensures that Detail Design MI is generated and in accordance with the VSY Standards, Quality and VSY Engineering Processes. The successful candidate will work well with senior engineering/production staff, is capable of independent work, provide supervision to junior designers and will contribute to the development of the electrical design.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
Developing sustainable electrical designs.
3D modelling creation and modelling support/checking.
2D production drawing creation and drawing support/checking.
Understand and develop (if required) single line diagrams and prepare designs, calculations, plans, specifications, contract documents.
Must have extensive understanding of all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, system descriptions and calculations.
Assist in developing reports and specifications.
Assist in a variety of project support activities including project management, strategic planning, client support, and business analysis supporting the business development and project management departments.
Assist Scheduling and Time Management.
Applies standard engineering tasks and exhibits a working knowledge of applicable codes.
Capable of independently evaluating the selection and/or modification of standard techniques, procedures, criteria, and systems to efficiently meet project goals.
Participate in the Internal/external design meetings.
Interface with other design disciplines, coordinate with related parties/groups, and managers.
Support design coordination.
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff.
Quality control, through conducting checking of engineering deliverables and production drawings.
Provide production support as required.
Supports the electrical aspects of projects by troubleshooting, diagnosing, and solving complex technical problems.
Other duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
Electrical Engineering Degree or Certified Electrical Technologist Diploma.
4-6 years' relevant experience in Electrical Engineering environment
Knowledge of marine electrical design, including detailed knowledge of shipbuilding and production best practices.
Ability to propose and develop solutions to complex technical problems with minimal support.
Knowledge of Cadmatic Hull, 3D Plant modeler and Eshare is an asset.
Knowledge of AutoCAD software and document control systems.
Knowledge of National Shipbuilding Strategy program is an asset.
Knowledge of Rhino, NavisWorks and SharePoint is an asset
Ability to communicate at various levels; written, verbal and presentation skills.
Technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
Organizational skills including the ability to maintain organized in a changing environment, multi-task and establish priorities.
Interpersonal skills.

The estimated salary for this position is $87,000 - $104,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
