We have an exciting work from home opportunity for a Director, Provincial Affairs for Newfoundland and Labrador who would operate from St. John's.
What will you do?
As the Director, Provincial Affairs, you will play a critical role in advancing CFIB's policy and advocacy initiatives in Newfoundland and Labrador. Reporting to the Vice-President, Atlantic, you will lead lobbying efforts, policy development, media relations, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring SMEs in the province are effectively represented.
Responsibilities:
Lead CFIB's policy work on provincial and municipal issues, and occasionally contribute to federal initiatives.
Collaborate with colleagues nationwide to shape CFIB's legislative affairs agenda.
Prepare and present reports, briefs, and memoranda to government officials, opposition members, and other stakeholders.
Monitor government policy and legislative developments to ensure alignment with CFIB's priorities.
Conduct member surveys to gather insights and define policy positions on SME issues.
Represent CFIB at regional meetings, providing updates on key advocacy issues to internal teams.
Collaborate with other departments to support members with policy-related inquiries.
Act as CFIB's spokesperson in Newfoundland and Labrador, advocating for SME interests in media interviews and public events.
Manage and develop department staff, fostering a culture of professionalism and growth.
Oversee department operations, including budgeting, planning, and tracking expenditures.
Ensure the seamless flow of information and strategy development between regional and national teams.
What makes a successful Director, Provincial Affairs for Newfoundland?
A university degree in Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, or equivalent work experience.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a public policy, government, or economics setting. Experience working with or within government is an asset.
Strong knowledge of SME issues and government policy processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and report writing.
Proven ability to manage and develop teams, with strong organizational and leadership skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
